At the age of sixteen, Ernest McCray Weeks, Sr. began employment with the Dorchester Lumber Company. The experience obtained in the years to follow would enable him to acquire employment in 1929 with a bedroom producer, Sumter Cabinet, in Sumter, South Carolina.
