95 years ago in Troy, NC, A. Lean Capel ventured into a business that would become America’s oldest and largest importer and manufacturer of area rugs. In 1917, after Henry Ford invented the tractor, he fashioned the raw material from his Gee Haw Plowline company into braids and sewed them into spirals to make reversible braided rugs. Mules and the plowlines that used to steer them were opsolete, but as sales grew, Leon son found out that nearly every family could use a good braided rug.
